Money used to be a really sore subject for me; in fact, I usually avoided the subject all together. It wasn’t until I was willing to take a brutally honest look at my beliefs around money, how I acquired those beliefs AND how those beliefs were limiting me, that I was able to start making a REAL change in the area of wealth. It wasn’t easy though. I, like many others, have a lot of fear and pain attached to my beliefs around money; and delving into those beliefs stirred up a lot of emotions. It was okay though… this is part of the process. I think of it like cleaning out a messy closet–you’ve got to go through some stuff…and it’s always more worth it than you think it will be.

When I was 7 years old, I recall my stepdad being laid off from his factory job. The job already brought in barely enough money for him to put dinner on the table every night. After he told my mother, I remember her saying: “What are we going to do?!” The desperation and worry in her voice was such that it gave me chills.

A few weeks later she came to me and told me to give her the allowance money that I had been saving because she needed it for groceries. I remember how unfair I thought it was and looking back I can see that that’s when I decided: “I’m never going to have money problems like this… I don’t need money!” I also made up that if you want to play by the rules, you have to work REALLY hard to get money and even then, you may still get the rug pulled out from under you…

And so you might be able guess how money has shown up for me most of my life (or not shown up). For one, it’s familiar to me to work really, really hard and only get paid a fraction of what I am worth and when I finally do get a good chunk of money, it’s like I go unconscious and–poof!–it’s gone before I know it. When I started to examine my role in all of this, I realized that, subconsciously, I had money attached to suffering, and I was pretty much getting rid of it every time I had it to ease the suffering that money triggered in me. Talk about limiting beliefs!

The first book to open my eyes to my unexamined story around money is called Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. I found this book in my personal development journey and thinking of all I got from reading it (4 times over), really doing the exercises and attending the Millionaire Mind Intensive, I have to say, I get really moved.

After the seminar, I was actually able to take on that money is FREEDOM and that I am up to something BIG in this world and money is a tool, a resource that I can use to manifest what I’m up to fully.

And what I am up to is this: Peace, a world that works for ALL living things…Health, connecting with source energy…Love: redefining this word to imply ACTION…AND…Integrity, being responsible for the whole of it, even the unseen.

I was introduced to EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) by a good friend of mine about four years ago. I was was blown away by the immediate results I got from applying the techniques, and I have sworn by them ever since. Simply tapping on certain points on my body while reciting affirmations has an immediate impact on my attitude. AND it seems to work on everything–health, wealth, abundance, peace of mind, stress and more! In fact, I have yet find to something that it DOESN’T work on.

I know, I know. It may seem a little strange at first… tapping different places on your body and talking to yourself… but what can I say, it works! How’s that for an empowering statement: Just freakin’ do it!

During that time I had a chance to take an good look at what I really wanted and what was actually stopping me… or, rather, WHO was stopping me! Myself!

All we have to do is say YES to what we truly want! It really IS possible to do what we LOVE!

When I first saw movie phenomenon, The Secret, I wasn’t sure what I thought. I found the tone of certainty about the whole Law of Attraction idea to be a bit unnerving. I did like the idea, but it sounded too good to be true. I had however been avidly exploring different forms of personal development and all-in-all the teachings seemed to be on my developmental path, so I started looking into each one of the teachers in the movie to see what they were about… I wanted, at the very least, to get all my questions answered.

Now, thanks my willingness to investigate, I did get all my questions answered, and I discovered that the Law of Attraction is a very real phenomenon, just like the Law of Gravity, whether I believed in it or not.

Thoughts are things; they can be measured and they have a frequency. This is not something that can be seen with the naked eye though. We are talking on a level of waves and particles here. We are talking on the level of energy.

(I am by no means a certified expert on the topic, but I have done quite a bit of research. To really get at the most common questions: check out the resources at the bottom of this blog.)

Presto!

The Secret movie itself is really only a primer. It only barely skims the surface of the Universal Laws that govern everything. Watching it is not enough. And anyone who thinks that what the movie is trying to say is: Simply watch this movie, think positive thoughts and presto!: You’re a millionaire, is not paying attention to what’s really being said.

Before beginning my personal development journey, anything that to me seemed to good to be true…WAS– end of story. Now when I feel something about a topic or issue, good or bad, I explore, and always with the intention of finding out if something is for right me and in line with my goals. This new mentality has created a clearing for magic to show up in my life.

And I’ll be the first to admit, it wasn’t always this way. I used to be addicted to certainty. If I didn’t know exactly how something would unfold or how something worked, I would turn away, especially if it was ‘risky’. This led to me quitting things when I became confused or unsure how to proceed. Thankfully, today I have a very different mindset…

Confusion to me now is simply a sign that there is something that I cannot see; something that if I were to see it, it could make a REAL difference. Inside this new interpretation, which is actually an inquiry, I find myself taking action a whole lot more rather than throwing in the towel before I’ve even found out what it is.
